Asian Pearl Seafood Restaurant sits modestly on Pierce Street in Richmond, offering a lively take on Cantonese dining with a clear emphasis on dim sum and fresh seafood. This is a full-service spot where families and groups often stroll in for a weekend meal, drawn by its sizable portions and straightforward, no-frills atmosphere.

The space buzzes with a casual energy typical of a bustling dai pai dong-style eatery, where diners lean in over lazy susan tables to share plates ranging from steamed beef balls and shrimp dumplings to crispy roast pork and chicken wings. The presence of larger parties navigating banquet-style meals highlights how this is a place for communal dining rather than a quiet, intimate experience.

Seafood is central here, and from what locals describe, it’s handled with care—fresh and lightly cooked, never overshadowed by heavy sauces. Dim sum is available all day, making an afternoon visit a good option for those craving a steady stream of small bites without the frenzy sometimes found in city dim sum halls. Prices feel reasonable for Richmond’s standards, and dishes like Beef Chow Fun Dry and the flaky Egg Custard Tarts tend to satisfy without requiring a reservation.

Service tends to be efficient if not overly attentive, reflecting the no-nonsense vibe of a popular neighborhood spot where many regulars already know the menu. Newcomers might find the variety a little daunting, but the staff manages to keep the kitchen moving quickly even during busy times.

If you’re in the area, Asian Pearl is a solid choice for a casual meal with friends or family, especially if you appreciate Cantonese flavors served with straightforward authenticity. Weekends can bring a wait, so arriving slightly earlier or on a weekday afternoon can offer a more relaxed pace. Expect a roomy dining room with some visual clutter, including loud screens playing ads—part of the practical, utilitarian vibe that keeps the focus on the food and the crowd rather than ambience.

Clearly a popular place on weekends. We had to wait for about 15 minutes for a table but once seated, service was quick and efficient. It seems like most patrons were familiar with the menu and could order rather quickly. That was not the situation for us. We were a table of three and two of us were not acquainted with the menu. Nonetheless, we ordered plenty and had leftovers to take home. The dishes are standard dim sum with my favorite being the warm sesame dessert balls. It's a bustling restaurant with an oversized TV screen that was a bit distracting.

Our group of 8 had a good dim sum lunch here but I don't think it's worth the drive unless you're in the area as there are better choices for dim sum in San Francisco.

Absolutely love this place. Asian Pearl Seafood Restaurant nails that perfect blend of big portions, great pricing, and fresh, flavorful cooking. It really feels like a classic 大排档 (dai pai dong) experience — casual, lively, and packed with bold Cantonese flavors. The seafood is fresh and cooked just right — nothing overdone, and everything tastes like it came straight from the tank. From clams in black bean sauce to salt and pepper crab, you’re getting solid execution and quality without the premium markup you’d expect elsewhere. What makes it even better is the service — quick, friendly, and on top of everything, even when it gets busy. Dishes come out hot and fast, and the team is always accommodating with special requests or adjustments. If you’re looking for no-frills, high-reward Chinese seafood with that old-school street food energy, this is the spot. Whether you’re dining in with family or doing a big group dinner, Asian Pearl delivers every time.

This place did great dim sum at reasonable prices - fresh and well varied. No wait on a Friday afternoon. Service was completely fine and not rude at all. The enormous LED screen on the wall playing ads was a bit unnecessary though - just turn it off...

Chinese banquet tables are always fun. We had 10 people, so it was the typical lazy susan round table with a ton of yummy food. Hot and sour soup to start. I think it was prepared well, though I'm not a huge fan of this kind of soup. Do you like Hainan chicken? It's the lightly colored blanched kind that you dip in soy sauce with garlic, ginger, and scallions. One of the "cleaner" tasting Chinese dishes you will have. You can't go wrong with stir fried steak and veggies in black bean sauce. And of course Peking duck with the buns is a Chinese dining staple. For something a little more hearty we had the salt and pepper spare ribs which is pork dipped and deep fried in batter. Walnut shrimp was creamy with perfectly honey-glazed walnuts. Long life noodles are usually kind of plain but there's was quite tasty. And of course we needed veggies, so we had baby pea greens sauteed in garlic and oil. Chinese style family banquet dinners rock. And Asia Pearl Kitchen was pretty darned good.
